Health Department of Kerala sanctions Rs 23 cr for medical college hospitals

The Health Department of Kerala has sanctioned Rs 23 crore for developing six government medical college hospitals in the state. A stroke centre will be set up at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
Of the total amount sanctioned, Rs 5.5 crore has been approved for Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, Rs five crore for Kottayam, Rs 3.5 crore for Allappuzha, Rs 5.5 crore for Kozhikode, Rs three crore for Thrissur and Rs 50 lakh for Ernakulam Medical College Hospital. The fund will be utilised for improving facilities and also for purchasing new equipment.

The government is sanctioning more funds for making the medical college hospitals in the state as centres of excellence. In Thiruvananthapuram apart from a stroke centre, the fund will be utilised for modernising the Institute of Paramedical Science and improving facilities at the of biochemistry lab.

In Alappuzha medical college, the fund will be utilised for improving facilities in the OP block. In Kozhikode medical college, Rs two crore will be utilised for modernising operation theatres and the remaining amount for improving facilities in wards. In Ernakulam and Thrissur medical colleges, the fund will be utilised for maintenance of wards.
