March 14, 2018
NTPC Ltd has released two solar tenders totaling 2.75 GW. The first will see 750 MW tendered in the state of Andhra Pradesh, while the second is tendering 2 GW for interstate transmission system (ISTS) PV to be installed anywhere across in India. Out of the Indian government’s 20 GW tender plan for the 2017-18 fiscal year, around 15 GW has already been tendered.
The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd has tendered two grid-connected large-scale utility solar PV power projects, to be installed in different states of India.
750 MW Andhra Pradesh tender
The company has invited bids for three 250 MW PV power plants to be installed in the Ananthapuramu Ultra Mega Solar Park, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Prospective developers may bid for a single, or all three projects.
Bid submissions are due on April 12, 2018.
2,000 MW ISTS tender
NTPC has also invited bids for 2 GW worth of interstate transmission system (ISTS) PV power projects, which canbe installed anywhere in India. This is the third ISTS tender this year, after SECI’s 2 GW and 3 GW tenders.
Similar to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) 2 GW ISTS tender, all projects will be installed on a “Build Own Operate (BOO)” basis. BOO is a project model in which a private entity receives a concession from the private or public sector, or government to finance, design, construct, own, and operate a solar facility.
As speculated, the projects will also be divided into blocks, and packages up to 50 MW. Bid submissions are due on April 24, 2018.
Both the projects will be developed under the Open category, where modules can be procured from either domestic manufacturers, or imported.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has planned for a total of 20 GW of PV tenders in the 2017-18 fiscal year, including 6 GW for the month of March. With this 2.75 GW, and upcoming tender of up to 100 MW from THDCIL (Tehri Hydro Development Corporation India Ltd), the number has reached to 2.85 GW so far, for this month.
In the latest news from SECI, the pre-bid meeting of ISTS tenders has been postponed to April 3 for the 3GW tender, and till further notice for the 2 GW tender
