24x7 water supply project likely to be delayed.

Work on ground to start the execution of the 24x7 water supply improvement project is likely to get delayed, according to sources in the civic body.

The delay would be on account of the additional time Suez India Private Limited was likely to seek to submit the capital investment plan (CIP) to execute the ₹ 646.71 crore project.

The company was expected to submit the CIP at the end of one-year study period, which would come to an end in January 2019. The CIP would be the blueprint of how Suez India Private Limited would go about executing the project over the next four years.

The sources said that the company had undertaken surveys – consumer and topographical – to study the existing water supply system in the city and use the surveys’ inputs to prepare the CIP, which would also say how much of the existing pipeline in the project area – 60 wards or core city – needed to be replaced, how many more overhead tanks needed to built.

The sources said that with the company having completed consumer survey in 40 of the 60 wards and 95% topographical survey, it needed more time to complete the task and prepare the CIP.

After it submitted the CIP, the project management committee that oversaw the project would need time to evaluate the CIP and suggest changes, if necessary. All this was likely to take time till March end.

Or, in other words, the sources said, the company was expected to begin work on ground only by mid-April 2019.

Senior officials, however, denied that there would be a delay. Suez India Private Limited had begun work in R.S. Puram, to implement a part of the project on a pilot basis. This was not part of the scope of the agreement.

The company would complete the work by April 2019, providing water over metered connection to the 6,600-odd consumers in Wards 23, 24 and a part of 79. This early implementation in R.S. Puram would offset any delay in CIP submission and the Corporation would see to it that the company completed the entire project within the four-year period, as per agreement.

The officials also said that the Corporation had asked the company to submit the CIP in parts so that the project management committee evaluation could go on simultaneously. So, there would be no delay.
