Ashok Leyland Kick Starts Construction of New Bus Making Unit in AP
Ashok Leyland, the fourth largest bus maker in the world, has commenced the construction of its new bus-manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh. The unit is located at Mallavalli Model Industrial Park in Krishna District and 40kms from Vijayawada.
The foundation stone for the unit was laid by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who congratulated Vinod K. Dasari, MD & CEO, Ashok Leyland, for the sift execution of the plant. Dasari has been quoted by news sources as saying that the new unit will help the company stay ahead of the curve. He also expressed hope in meeting the rising demand for ready-t-use fully built trucks once the unit gets fully functional.
Spread over 75 acres, the bus making unit will include latest technologies that will help retain high quality standards for the flagship brand of Hinduja Group. The plant will also have a state-of-the-art learning center and an advanced service training centre. Once completed, the unit will be capable of producing 4800 buses per year.
In addition, the unit will also include electric vehicle development centre that will feature futuristic conveyor line, pilot assembly line and prototype development. The plant will also be a fully green unit with provision for rooftop solar panels, LED lighting, battery operated vehicles for in-plant transportation, and more.
The first phase, which includes the aforesaid, will be constructed with an investment of Rs 170 crore. The company is expecting to rollout the first bus from the unit within six months, while full capacity of the plant is planned to be achieved in a year. Ashok Leyland is also planning to recruit over 5000 employees for its new unit.
