BorgWarner, a global automotive engine parts maker, has expanded manufacturing operations near Chennai in order to serve the emerging demand in the next few years.

The US-headquartered company has added 1,500 square metre of manufacturing space to its existing 35,100 sq m production line at its Kakkalur facility in Thiruvallur near Chennai. While the investment details pertaining to the expansion were not disclosed, the new facility will see the company hiring more than 80 people.

“A lot of OEMs are refreshing their products and most of them are trying to bring new engines for their vehicles, both for new and old. They are also upgrading their engines for new emission norms. These new engine programmes will drive our growth,” said R Murai, Director and Plant Manager, BorgWarner Morse Systems India Pvt Ltd, at the company’s Thiruvallur plant.
