BASF India Plans Capacity Expansion at Dahej Plant

BASF India Ltd, the maker of an array of specialty chemicals, on Monday said that the company is planning to expand its manufacturing capacity for Cellasto at its Dahej site.

Cellasto is the trade name for components made of BASF Cellular polyurethane elastomers and has been successfully used for over 55 years in the suspension system to reduce noise, vibration and harshness in automotive production, according to the company.

“The expansion at Dahej will serve India’s growing automotive market for both two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles. The expansion project includes a new production line and will supplement the testing equipment of Cellasto installed earlier this year,” the company said.

Further, in line with the changing customer needs in the South Asian region, the company has decided to cease TPU manufacturing at Dahej. However, it will continue supplying South Asian markets from its global network, which would ensure seamless supply to customers.

“There is no impact of a material nature on account of cessation of TPU manufacturing and the same will not affect the company’s overall growth strategy in India,” the company added.

Based in Mumbai, BASF India is a subsidiary of German chemical maker BASF Societas Europaea, BASF Schweiz AG and BASF Construction Solutions GmbH.
