Central Railway Earmarks Rs 10cr For Pune Station Development

The city’s railway station is set to get a Rs10 crore touch-up by the end of the year.
The Pune division of Central Railway has prepared the plan under the Centre’s station redevelopment project.
As per officials, the plan has been sent to the regional headquarters in Mumbai and will be executed without appointing a consultant.
“The Indian Railway Station Development Corporation has been tasked with redeveloping 600 railway stations across the country with help from private players. In addition to this, the railways will on its own uplift and develop 70 stations across India. With Pune on the list, we have zeroed in on development plans worth Rs10 crore. Also, we have decided not to appoint a special consultant for the job; we ourselves will carry it out,” Krishnath Patil, senior divisional commercial manager, Central Railway’s Pune division, told TOI.
The plan also includes setting up two designated selfie points on the station premises. “One (selfie point) will be set up on platform number 6, while the other will be on the main campus. However, the exact points will be identified in due course. These points provide passengers designated and safe places to take pictures. We’ll consider more such points as the plan is further developed,” another official said.
One important aspect of the plan involves improving the platform surfaces.
“We have received many complaints (from passengers) that the surface of platform number 1 is smooth, but not for other platforms. The surfaces of all platforms will be improved and brought upto par with platform number 1. We will also overhaul the lighting across the station. There will be a new and improved signage system too,” the official further added.
Among the other stations set for improvement are under this plan Lonavla, Mumbai, Nagpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Jaipur, Delhi and Mysuru.
“The facade of the station will also be improved. Passenger facilities will get a boost. The station has seen some beautification in the form of paintings and we will further develop the project. We expect the work to be completed by December,” the official added.
