Chennai Metro Rail starts work on Central Square
Chennai Metro Rail Limited's plan to construct a commercial complex near the Central Metro Station, called The Central Square, has started to take shape.
L&T Geostructure has won the contract from CMRL to build a section of this project. The infrastructure major will build three basements that will serve as a large car parking area as well as the foundation.
Quoting CMRL officials, a report in The Hindu said they have conducted the bhoomi pooja and the preliminary work has started.
The report said the project would cost Rs 400 crore. “The parking lot will have a capacity to accommodate around 1,000 cars and will benefit thousands of passengers who travel to the Chennai Central railway station, the suburban station, the MRTS station and the Chennai Central Metro station,” it added.
