Construction of Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge on Fast Track
Construction work on the proposed suspension cable bridge across Durgam Cheruvu is gaining steam with excavation works of five out of the 13 pillars for the bridge being completed. Concrete foundation works are currently under way at Madhapur, said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials.
Among the 13 pillars, two pillars are to be constructed in the middle of the lake, which is an engineering challenge for the GHMC officials. Accordingly, they are constructing two temporary coffer dams on the riverbank to ensure there is no hindrance to the work.
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development K Taraka Rama Rao laid the foundation for the project on April 26. He has asked the officials to complete the project within 18 months.
Workers were engaged to remove hyacinth in Durgam Cheruvu and the work would be completed by July end. Apart from removing of hyacinth, cleaning of Durgam Cheruvu has been entrusted to Raheja IT Company as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with a cost of Rs 50.80 lakh.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that the conceptual design and structural designs have been finalized. CC foundation works are also in progress two pylons are being planned for the lake and work is progressing at a brisk pace. All efforts are being made to complete the project within the scheduled time.
Once the work is completed, Durgam Cheruvu will be completely transformed with a new ambience, besides easing traffic flow in the area, he said.
A pond for immersion of Ganesh idols will also be constructed at a cost of Rs 90 lakhs in which as many as 3,000 idols can be immersed. The beautification would also include an elevated corridor with a cost of Rs 85 crore which is planned at Road No 45 and white topping of roads with a cost of Rs 90 crore.
Rs 2 crore have been allocated for the construction of cycling track for 2.20 km length, for children park, yoga centre and other beautification works.
The bridge will facilitate in addressing the traffic woes in Jubilee Hills and neighbouring areas. After completion of the project, the number of tourists to the site would be increased.
