Foundation Stone Laid for Orvakal Airport
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the greenfield airport to be constructed at Orvakal in Panyam assembly segment on Wednesday. The airport will come up on 2,000 acres which will involve investment to the tune of Rs120 crore.
With the construction of the airport, many industries will come up in the district thus helping business in this area and generating more employment.
The no-frills airport will have a runway of about 3.5 km, a terminal building and the airport area would have a protection wall. This airport would join the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Udan scheme which seeks to provide regional connectivity. It is expected to boost the economic activity in the Rayalaseema region.
On this occasion, he said that as of now businessmen of Kurnool had to go either to Hyderabad or to Bengaluru airports by travelling hundreds of kilometres for not having the airport facility in Kurnool. The Orvakal airport would be constructed with international standards and would be completed just in a year.
Naidu also announced that airports better than the one in Hyderabad would come up at Amaravati and Visakhapatnam in the private sector.
Naidu also laid the foundation stone for a food processing unit at Tangadancha village in Jupadubungla mandal. The food processing unit is being established by the Jain Irrigation System at a cost of Rs 400 crore.
