Groundwork Begins on New Pune Airport Terminal Building

Egis India, a France-based company has been appointed as consultants for the new Pune airport terminal building. They has started work on topography survey of the site, they will collect the required data and study it thoroughly, senior airport officials said.

Pune airport director Ajay Kumar said that the survey was expected to be completed within 10 days, following which other technical works would be taken up.

Before the construction begins, the basic ground work needs to be taken care of. As of now, they are expecting the actual construction to start in the next 7-8 months which would take at least three years to complete.

The Pune airport has been in the expansion mode since earlier this year. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials have refrained from commenting on the proposed airport at Purandar and have maintained that they were doing their job.

The expansion of the Pune airport involves many projects in addition to the construction of a new terminal building which will be a major part of the airport expansion project, around Rs 400 crore having been sanctioned for the project.

The officials said that the new terminal will cater to around 5,000 passengers during peak hours. The work is expected to begin only by February next year, the same is likely to get over by 2021.
