Hindalco to invest Rs. 3,600 crore in Gujarat for extrusion, recycling plants.
India’s largest aluminium extrusion and recycling plant will come up in Gujarat, informed the Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani following an agreement was signed by the government with the Aditya Birla Group major, Hindalco Industries Ltd. in Gandhinagar recently.
Two memorandums of understanding (MoU) entailing a total investment of Rs. 3,600 crore, including Rs. 2,100 crore for the extrusion plant and Rs. 1,500 crore for the recycling plant in Kutch were signed by Hindalco officials led by Managing Director Satish Pai and and State government officials led by Manoj Das, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, in the presence of Raupani.
The company will develop the projects in phased manner, a State government statement said here. The extrusion plant will have a capacity of 137,000 tonnes, and the recycling plant will be set up with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes per annum.
Globally renowned aluminium rolling company, Hindalco Industries already has two extrusion plants in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, with a combined capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum. With the said investment, the company will generate total employment for about 2,000. The Chief Minister is also understood to have discussed the possibility of setting up a desalination plant in Gujarat to fulfil the water requirements of the plants in public-private partnership mode.
