Hovercraft Project in Vizag to be Ready by October
Andhra Pradesh state government to bring in four hovercrafts from Russia for an advance amount of Rs 60 lakh has been paid. The hovercraft project is likely to be ready by October in Vizag, one of the nine coastal districts in the state.
AP Tourism Development Corporation executive director R Sreeramulu Naidu said that it will be a big leap for tourism along the city coast.
The project was proposed and a memorandum of understand was signed between Hoverdock representatives and the tourism department at the CII Summit in 2016.
Since then, the stake holders including Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (VMC), Vuda, Indian Navy, Vizag Port Trust as well as private players submitted several detailed project reports.
As per the plan, two five-seater hovercrafts, one seven-seater and one nine-seater hovercraft will be introduced in phase-I. While a five-seater hovercraft costs Rs 50 lakh, a nine-seater hovercraft costs Rs 1.30 crore.
Hover Dock is likely to spend Rs 7-8 crore on the project in association with AP Tourism Department Construction.
GVMC have expressed willingness to give 3,700 sq yard of land opposite Hotel Sea Pearl on Beach Road to Hyderabad-based Hoverdock to set up the facility at a rent of Rs 15 lakh per annum.
Vizag will be the first city in the country to have such a tourism facility. The boat needs no jetty and is completely safe when compare to the tourism boats.
D Chaitanya Varma, proprietor of Hoverdock said that at present, the Indian Coast Guard wings use such boats and now they are introducing them for domestic purposes.
Once the project is thrown open to the public, passengers will be charged anything between Rs 300 and Rs 350 per head for a 15-minute to 30-minute ride on the sea.
