Indian Railways has kick-started a major overhauling process in a bid to transform its entire network. Going by what Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu believes, in the next five years, the Indian Railways network would see major transformation.

The stress is on ‘Rail Badhhega- Desh Badhhega’ and the government has rolled out a slew of reforms, including a variety of passenger-friendly initiatives. The plan to acquire around 40,000 coaches with improved interiors and upgraded facilities is part of the reforms.

The retrofitting of 40,000 coaches could very well turn out to be a game changer, as it will help transform the entire rail network and also generate employment opportunities for the youth of India, it is said.

According to reports, the Railways would earmark Rs 8.5 lakh crore of investment so as to effectively draw up a road map of reforms for the five-year period. Rail coach factories will also be established, the reports said, quoting Prabhu.
