June 2017 Saw 3285 Remote Indian Villages Brighten Up

Piyush Goyal – Minister of State for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines announced that 13,872 villages were provided with electricity connection by the end of June, 2017.

Out of this 3,285 inaccessible villages across the nation were electrified under the DDG Scheme (Decentralized Distributed Generation), under the umbrella scheme of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).

The DDG Scheme comprises of electricity generation from renewable sources such as biomass, biofuels, biogas, Mini hydro, solar etc
