Kia to Hire 3,000 for Upcoming Plant in Andhra Pradesh
This year’s Auto Expo had witnessed the launch of a slew of new models from a variety of automotive companies. Korean auto maker Kia Motors Corporation was one among the companies that announced their new models for India. There was news that the company is setting up a manufacturing plant, on an investment of over $1 billion, in Andhra Pradesh.
On Thursday, the company revealed that they will be recruiting around 3,000 employees for the same plant. They also held a framework installation ceremony at the unit on Thursday.
The plant, once ready, will employ around 3,000 and has the capacity to produce 3 lakh cars in a year. The construction work of the plant, spread over 23 million square feet of space, is on and is expected to be completed in the first few months of 2019. The vehicle manufacture at the plant is expected to begin later in 2019.
A company statement disclosed that, aiming to inculcate manufacturing skills among local residents, the company will start a training programme at the state government level. Discussions regarding the training programme are going on between the company and the Andhra Pradesh government.
Han-Woo Park, president and CEO, Kia Motors Corporation has stated that the company’s aim is not just to build cars. They also intend to provide a new lifestyle experience to the Indian customers, providing them with world class products and best services. He also added that the company will connect with the Indian citizens and will work hand in hand.
The company, at the Auto Expo 2018, had assured potential customers that they will launch a wide range of their vehicles in India by 2021. The vehicles by Kia Motors will include an India-exclusive compact electric vehicle. The first product of the company to hit the Indian roads will be the SP Concept, an SUV designed and developed for the Indian market. The car is expected to hit the market in 2019.
