L&T allowed more time to complete Hyderabad metro project
Construction major L&T has been granted extension of time till November 2018 to complete the elevated Rs. 14,132 crore Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
Effectively this means an extension of construction deadline by about 17 months.
After detailed technical presentations by the Concessionaire L&TMRHL, Independent Engineer Louis Berger, and HMRL and several rounds of discussions and hard negotiations between the senior officials of the Telangana Government and the Concessionaire, the Government has permitted extension to complete the entire Hyderabad Metro Rail project other than the 5 km stretch in the Old City and about 1 km stretch between Hitec city and Raidurg, latest by November 2018.
Since the original construction period was ending by today (July 4) and some delays have occurred in completion of the project by the originally stipulated date due to multiple court cases in acquisition of some critical properties etc., Government has agreed for this time extension of 17 months, according to NVS Reddy, MD, HMRL. While agreeing for this time extension, the interests of the Government have been protected, he added.
Further, Chief Secretary Telangana SP Singh reviewed the progress of the project on July 3 and observed that while the few remaining properties to be acquired are not coming in the way of the Metro project, he instructed both the Collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts and Commissioner, GHMC to complete acquisition of the remaining properties quickly for widening of roads in some busy stretches in Sultan Bazar, Nampally etc., and for implementing the project in the remaining few stretches.
While granting time extension, the State Government has advised MD, L&TMRHL and MD, HMRL to gear up for launching the completed stretches of the project in the next few months and also to complete corridor-I (Miyapur-LB Nagar: 29 km) and corridor-III (Nagole-Hitec City: 27 km) by the end of this year itself.
