Ministers unhappy at slow pace of work.

Ministers T. Harish Rao (Irrigation) and Tummala Nageswara Rao (Roads & Buildings) have expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress of work of Sitarama lift irrigation project in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district intended to irrigation 6 lakh acres.

The two Ministers took stock of the work at a meeting held here on Tuesday and enquired about the status of land acquisition, forest, environmental and wildlife clearances, pump house and canals and other work and felt that the pace of work was not as expected. While reviewing the package-wise work, they told the engineers that they would hold another meeting after a fortnight and want improvement in the speed of work by then.

Engineers of the project explained that out of 8 packages, work was taken up on 3 so far.

Mr. Harish Rao directed the engineers to complete agreements with the chosen contractors and ground works in the remaining 5 packages as early as they could. Further, the Ministers were apprised that work on only one pump out of 5 proposed in the pump house had commenced so far and work on another pump was expected to be taken up soon.

The Ministers directed the engineers to come up with an action plan for grounding of works in the packages yet to be taken up as also the work on three pumps before the next meeting.

Mr. Harish Rao told the officials to complete the Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) survey for acquisition of forest land in the next 10 days and asked Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) S.K. Joshi to take measures for immediate payment of compensation to the land being acquired.

He also told the officials to acquire lands for compensatory afforestation along with the forest land required for the project and hand them over to Forest Department.

At another meeting on Udayasamudram project in Nalgonda district, Mr. Harish Rao wanted the officials to take up work on special drive mode to complete it as scheduled and give water to 50,000 acres land by filling 60 minor irrigation tanks.

The Minister also reviewed the progress of land acquisition for Dindi balancing reservoir, Pendlipakala reservoir. Officials informed the Minister that 5,000 acres out of 9,800 acres needed for Dindi had been acquired.
