NHAI to lay new six-lane greenfield highway from Chennai to Chittoor

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is proposing to lay another new six-lane greenfield highway from Thatchur near Chennai to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. The project covering a distance of 126.550 km will cut through Pulikundram reserve forest in the Red Hills range of the Tiruvallur division.



The project is implimented under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, an umbrella scheme of the Central government, at an estimated cost of 3,197.56 crore.



According to Indian Express that the NHAI, along with consultant Louis Berger, has made a detailed presentation before the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The project received an in-principle approval from central and state government departments.



This is another major highway project being proposed in the state besides Chennai-Salem Expressway project which under severe protests from farmers.
