The Panchkula Municipal Corporation (MC) will construct 40 flats in Sector 27 here under the Centre’s Adarsh Housing Plan. A team of the Department of Technology Demonstration Extension and International Corporation led by its chief Sharad Kumar Gupta team inspected the spot. He was accompanied by officials of the Union Urban and Housing Ministry. Panchkula MC officials discussed about the construction of flats with the Central team. MC’s technical advisers Sunil Kumar and Jagdish Kumar also presented their views with regard to the construction of flats of the green and energy technology. The corporation will provide land for the project and money for the construction of the flats will be provided by the Centre. Rajesh Jogpal, Administrator-cum-Commissioner, Panchkula MC, said they had selected one acre area in Sector 27 for the project. He said earlier the project was to be given to Gurugram, but on special request of the officials in the district administration, the project had now been given to the local MC. He said the Urban Local Bodies Department would decide whether these flats would be given to the poor or to the MC employees. He said old age home or women hostel could be set up in these flats. Community centre and other basic facilities would also be provided, along with these flats, he added. Centre to fund project.
