RKEC bags Rs. 521-cr bridge project in West Bengal.
RKEC Projects, in a joint venture with China's Qingdao Construction Engineering, has bagged a project worth Rs. 521 crore to construct a four-lane bridge across the Ganga near Farakka in West Bengal. The project is among the 12 such bridges to be constructed over the river, envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is expected to be completed in 36 months. The existing Farakka rail-cum-road barrage is the only link between the north-eastern region and the country.
The increasing traffic has forced the government to construct a new bridge between Farakka and Malda.
The construction of the 5.468-km long bridge-cum-approach roads, along NH-34 on the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) model was entrusted to RKEC's JV by the National Highway Authority of India. RKEC Projects has mobilised equipment worth over Rs. 100 crore, consisting of eight hydraulic piling machines, 10 heavy duty cranes, three batching plants, 12 concrete mixtures, among others.
