India is leading the world in the creation of smart cities and Kota has been chosen as one of four smart cities in state of Rajasthan. Royal HaskoningDHV has been commissioned to provide project management consultancy services for one of the first of 100 ‘smart cities’ to be development in India and to bring in smart solutions which will ultimately improve the quality of life for the citizens of Kota City.

The Indian government is committed to the creation of 100 smart cities across the nation. Smart cities will drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of city residents by enabling local development and harnessing technology.

The smart city concept encompasses a wide range of approaches and solutions aimed at meeting the needs of India’s rapidly growing urban population. Fundamental to smart city proposals is the need to ensure that the water supply and sanitation requirements of the city are met. To achieve this, Kota City, with its current population of 1.1 million, has major plans for the improvement of existing infrastructure and introduction of smart technologies through Area Based Development (ABD) and Pan City Solutions.

Kota Smart City Ltd has commissioned Royal HaskoningDHV in joint venture with STUP Consultants Pvt Ltd to provide project management consultancy services for Kota including design, construction supervision and project management for infrastructure solutions such as lake development, 24/7 water supply, rainwater harvesting, sanitation improvements, integrated urban road development, electric lighting, energy security and the improvement of gardens, parks and open spaces.

The team will also provide various smart solutions as part of a scope of work encompassing the installation of smart metering, SCADA systems, solid waste management, command control centers, area wide internet, student facilitation centers, e-classrooms, and WIFI within Kota City.
