Safran Engineering is setting up its biggest MRO facility in Hyderabad, Telangana

Safran Engineering is setting up its biggest maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Hyderabad, Telangana.

The facility will be able to handle up to 300 engine shop visits annually. The unit will also be the biggest in India to be set up by a major global engine manufacturer.

The company will make an investment of up to USD 200 million in the MRO facility. The construction work on the project will commence in 2023 and the company hopes to receive its first customer in 2025.

Presently, Safran’s largest MRO facilities are in its headquarters in France and in Mexico. The MRO facility will service the Leap-1A and Leap-1B engines, that comprise the largest chunk of Indian airlines’ orderbook.

On 7 July 2022, Safran launched two subsidiaries – Safran Aircraft Engines and Safran Electrical & Power India.

Safran Aircraft Engines will produce components and parts such as rotating seals for aircraft engines, while Safran Electrical & Power India will manufacture harnesses for civil and fighter jets.

The company also plans to form a joint venture with the Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) in Bengaluru which will make rigid piping for aircraft engines including helicopter engines. In all, the company aims to infuse USD 350 million in India.
