Infrastructure of the Orange City will get a new look with the construction of viaduct of Kamptee Road stretch of Nagpur Metro Rail. The length is 7.3km including the 4.3km long double decker flyover. Six top companies have participated in the bid for Rs560 crore construction project.

Sources in Mahametro said that the six companies are — ITD Cementation, Simplex (which built the Gowari flyover), Afcons (which built the Ramjhula), Gammon India, NCC (which is building the Wardha Road Metro) and ILFS(which is building Metro stations on Wardha Road).

The technical evaluation of the viaduct tender has started and is expected to take a month. The financial bid will be opened after that and it will take another two to three weeks for evaluation.

Work on other three stretches — Wardha Road, Hingna Road and Central Avenue has already started.

Also work on five out of seven Metro stations of Kamptee Road stretch has already started. They include Zero Mile, Kasturchand Park, Gaddigodam Square, Nari Road and Automotive Square.

Tender for construction of Indora Square and Kadbi Square Metro stations is yet to be opened.

Mahametro will rehabilitate the shopkeepers of Gol Bazar, Gaddigodam, where the station will be constructed. The design for the new commercial complex is being finalized.

Meanwhile, Mahametro is pulling out all stops for the trial run slated to be held in a few months. The coaches from Hyderabad Metro are expected to arrive this month. They will be transported by road.

Work on Sitabuldi to Prajapati Nagar (near Wardhaman Nagar) stretch of Nagpur Metro had started recently on June 8. The viaduct will be mostly constructed over Central Avenue, which has heavy vehicular traffic. Mahametro managing director Brijesh Dixit has appealed to citizens to bear with the problem.
