Slip road opened on Dhaula Kuan to IGI stretch.
In some relief for the commuters driving towards Indira Gandhi International Airport, a slip road for a signal-free left turn was thrown open on Thursday near Subroto Park.
The move is part of a plan drawn up by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to decongest the stretch between Dhaula Kuan and the airport by 2019 at a cost of ₹260 crores.
Following this, would be the step involving work on the underpass to further decongest this stretch, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari tweeted after inaugurating the road.
The underpass is aimed at connecting defence establishments on either side of the road including Manekshaw Centre. It will also do away with the need for traffic signals at the junction allowing free movement of traffic. The section of the road between Dhaula Kuan junction and the slip road is proposed to be widened to ensure minimum four lanes on either side.
13 acres of land
Ministry of Defence agreed to transfer 13 acres of land to NHAI for the project.
For the traffic moving in the opposite direction, i.e., from airport towards Dhaula Kuan, the junction at which Station Road merges with National Highway 8 will be made signal free by providing a flyover and a vehicular underpass.
