Smaller Airports in Tamil Nadu to be Modernized

Airport Authority of India (AAI) has undertaken the development, upgradation and modernization of new domestic airports across the country. Smaller Airports in Tamil Nadu to be Modernized.

In Tamil Nadu the construction of new domestic terminal for handling of peak hour traffic as well as upgradation of old terminal building to international cargo terminal at Tiruchirappali Airport is being undertaken. Smaller Airports in Tamil Nadu to be Modernized. Approximately 500 additional passengers converge at Tirucharippali Airport during peak hours.

At Tuticorin Airport, re-carpeting of the existing runway and construction of new integrated terminal building is being undertaken to cater 700 peak hours passenger.

Conversion of a part of the old domestic terminal building at Madurai Airport has been undertaken by AAI to facilitate its use as a common user domestic cargo terminal. The extension and modernization of the old integrated terminal building at Coimbatore Airport has also started, which will enable it to handle peak hour traffic of 625 passengers.

AAI’s scope of work involves development of new facilities at airports, upgradation and modernization of existing airports depending on the traffic demand, availability of land resources, ensuring environmental clearances and NOC’s from various authorities.
