Farmers from Parthimenikuppam and neighbouring villages in Uthukottai taluk in Tiruvallur district laid siege to a team of officials attached to revenue and the national highways authority of India (NHAI), when they tried to survey the land falling on the alignment for the Chennai (Thatchur) –Chittoor six-lane expressway project

The 126.5km long expressway project, which would be taken up under Bharatmala Prayojana at a cost of around Rs 3,197 crore, will provide direct connectivity to Chennai port from Bangalore and Chittoor. A total of 885.5 hectares of land, including 360.5 hectares in Tiruvallur district in TN, would be acquired for the project
