TWAD Board asked to complete pipeline-laying work in Coimbatore.

The Coimbatore Corporation has asked the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board to complete water supply pipeline-laying work in some areas so that it could re-lay damaged roads there.

The corporation has not only asked the board but also shared a list of areas where it wants the pipeline-laying work completed so that it can re-lay the roads damaged due to the work, says Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan.

The sharing happened after the State Government through the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Project approved of a corporation proposal for ₹40 crore to re-lay 69.14 km in 19 packages, says Executive Engineer K. Saravanakumar.

The corporation will take up work under 15 packages for 53.18 km for ₹31.60 crore in West Zone, a work for 1.70 km in North Zone for ₹2.40 crore, two packages for ₹4 crore for re-laying 10.34 km in South Zone, and a package for ₹2 crore to re-lay 3.92 km road.

Mr. Saravanakumar says that the corporation has also asked the board to prioritise areas in West Zone where it has completed giving house service connections under the Kavundampalayam-Vadavalli water supply improvement project.

The wards that will get new roads in West Zone were five, six, seven, eight, 15, 16 and 17.

There are also a few other wards in the Zone – Wards 23 and 24 – that will also get new roads though the areas have not seen any water pipeline-laying work.

The Commissioner says the corporation has also readied a project to re-lay 63.44 km road in 18 packages for ₹40 crore. It will take up road re-laying work in all the five zones. It has floated tender and the work will start in the coming months.
