Ukkadam flyover work to begin soon.

With the State Highways Department planning to start works for the Ukkadam flyover in another 10 days, discussions are on regarding traffic diversion in that area, said an official of the Highways.
The flyover will be a four-lane, single deck flyover to be built at a cost of ₹121 crore.

�Encroachments need to be removed and about 300 people will be provided houses through the Slum Clearance Board. Land is being marked now for removal of encroachments. Discussions are also on with the police regarding traffic diversion,� the official said.

Though the flyover is known as Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover, it will be extended to Athupalam at a later stage.

On the Gandhipuram flyover, the official said bids will be called for shortly for extension of the second level of the flyover to Avarampalayam area.

The Government has allocated ₹21 crore for extension of the flyover by 450 metres. The total length of the second level will now be 1.7 km. The plan is to complete the entire second deck of the flyover by October this year. Works that are going on now will be over by June.

A consultant is also studying the flow of traffic on the Nanjappa Road flyover and the service road. A report is expected by the end of this month, the official added.
