‘Vizag-Gunupur railway line will be operational by tomorrow’.
The track between Pathapatnam in Srikakulam district and Parlakhemundi in Odisha that was partially washed away during the cyclonic storm Titli has been restored after 10 days of relentless work under the supervision of officials of the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR).
Announcing this before the media here on Monday, Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur said that a passenger train would be operated on Tuesday and from Wednesday, operations would be as usual.
“The cyclonic storm Titli had resulted in a complete washout of 280 metres of track between Tekkali and Peddasana. The site was inaccessible as both the track and road was blocked by the fallen trees,” the DRM told the media here.
About half a km of track was completely washed out and station buildings at Parlakhemundi, Pathapatnam, Naupada were damaged.
Signal poles and station equipment were also damaged. Due to the heavy rain fall and uproot of trees all the roads were blocked and communication was completely disrupted.
The railways authorities immediately started the restoration works on a war footing.
More than 300 people apart from the railways teams including track specialists, bridge engineers, signal and telecom engineers were engaged in the works.
Four heavy duty earth movers were engaged round the clock.
The DRM Further said that water logging of the section and washing away of the earth had compounded the problem and delayed the execution of the works.
